| My Review | I have so many mixed feelings. The strongest is a sadness in seeing this series go. “A Winter’s Promise” reignited my love for reading, and I consumed the series faster than any. I adore all the characters, especially Ophelia and Thorn. I had so much fun reading their quest to save the world. In my humble admission, the last two books were not to my taste, but genius all the same. The complicated plot, red herrings, twists, and an open ending left me confused yet satisfied with how the series came to an end. I know Ophelia will be reunited with Thorn. I wish her peace and happiness when she finally does. I will always remember this series, and may one day re-read it again.

I truly adore this series and was so happy with Ophelia's growth overall. I do agree with other readers that this novel is a little all over the place but I did find the pacing faster and easier to get through than previous books. I managed to knock this one out in two sittings which is good for me at the moment. Having posed so many questions across the series and having them all answered in this one book did make for a chaotic journey but I thoroughly enjoyed. It made the seriousness of the situation, the fear and the danger more tangible. I felt anxious reading through certain chapters and I didn't expect that kind of thrill from what has been a fairly chill ride up to this point.

There are some pretty strong themes in regards to displacement, stigmatizing, censorship, infertility and misgendering. What started out as an arranged marriage and interfamilial move has become a war with Ophelia and Thorn both attempting to fly under the radar while they deconstruct a web that hides God.

This conclusion actually answers the many questions I had written down in my notebook. Characters that have apparently been forgotten about, certain relationships and hidden identities are all revealed.

The last few chapters do unravel a little and I find myself unsatisfied with the lack of closure in regards to Ophelia and Thorn. I'm not entirely sure I understand completely what has happened in regards to that particular situation and that is the reason why I haven't given this story a 5 star rating. While I fell in love with the earlier novels, that very last chapter and the misgendering of our hidden family spirit did taint the experience for me.

Maybe I’m just a tetralogy hater, but this could have been a trilogy.

I’m crying.
That ending will haunt me forever.
I would give up everything I own to know what happens beyond this ending , I guess that’s the point.
I loved the book and the series, I’m so happy (if a little heartbroken) to have read them.
