The Commissar Cain omnibuses have ending up becoming a kind of comfort read for me. Fun, light, fast reads that despite knowing the story because I've read it before, have not yet ceased to entertain me. They're like a TV show that each time you come across an episode of it you stop channel surfing and watch it. At least once a year it seems, I'll pick up one of these books no matter how enticing the rest of the books on my to read stack may be.

The only thing keeping it from 5 stars are the last super-short stories at the end of the book. I understand the three novels in this omnibus are linked, but after those three novels and two interesting shorter stories, these last two entries are only a couple pages each and feel tacked on and hurried.
