Not quite as helpful as I had hoped. Ann Douglas does an excellent job of describing the problems of modern parenting, unfortunately I found her solutions somewhat lacking.

This book was a slog. I really liked Douglas' Mother of All Baby Books, but found this one disappointing.
Every now and then there was a glimmer of useful advice, but all too often it just seemed like really obvious stuff without an interesting enough writing style to get you through.
I also struggled as a new mom reading this book because it felt like the first half was all the ways parenting is hard/sucks, haha, which was hard to get through when I still had such a young baby and things were still pretty tough.
That said, maybe this book isn't necessarily for new parents, and would be a better read in a few years or when my kid is in school. Wouldn't recommend to new moms/dads.
