In and of itself, this is a beautiful read. The setting of the story feels more traditionally Gothic than the other two Nightborn books. I liked that the characters know themselves but still have room to grow. And the dark story of the plague adds to the fast-paced feeling of desperation. It was a quick and compelling read. I finished this book in one sitting, as I just didn't want to put it down. I also really loved that the FMC is a woman in her 30s (and an academic!)! Such a refreshing break from the teen and 20-something characters of so many other fantasy novels! If you're reading the Nightborn Duet of the Crowns of Nyaxia series, I recommend spending the time to read this 150 pg short side story. And you don't have to read it before book 2 (The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King) to understand the story line, but I did. Even if you're not reading the rest of the series I still think it's worth your time because it's actually just a beautiful story.

This was a cute lil stand alone. I really like Carissa Broadbent’s writing style! Since it was so short, I didn’t feel as super connected to the characters but I thought it was a lovely little vampire story! Excited to see more of Lilith and Vale in the rest of the series!

A wonderful short addition to the Crowns of Nyaxia series! I loved getting to read Lilliths story, she’s a brilliantly written character with lots of charm, especially considering the small amount of time/pages to develop her story. I personally recommend reading this novella after Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, as some mild spoilers occur in this book.

A beautifully romantic slow burn romance set in the Crowns of Nyaxia world. I absolutely loved this novella!

What a delightful short story. It felt so well done and fully fleshed out the ti forgot it was a novella and got sad it was already over. In that short time, you really get a good feel for Vale and Lilith, and I'm excited to see how they tie into Book 2 because they are just wonderful. The only bummer is we don't get anymore than those two, and when there's another character it's really brief. I suppose it IS a novella though. But it was still very good and a wonderful concept.
