I remember liking the book, but really disliking Jim when I finished it.

I was going through boxes the other day and I came across this book, the same copy I bought with the $5 my grandmother gave me for my fifteenth birthday about a million years ago. It was a hugely influential book on my life way back in the day and it was kind of funny reading it from an adult's perspective. Some of the antics Morrison got up to that seemed to cool when I was kid seemed purely asinine now, but for the most part Jim holds up as a cool guy, interesting lyricist, and a wonderful entertainer who (when sober) plotted his every move with Machiavellian preciseness. He wanted the world and he wanted it now (then), and he got it. Even better, the world got him. Great read, and a very good introduction to the body and work of the Doors. Read Densmore's Riders on the Storm for a different perspective, and then watch Oliver Stone's beautiful (and inaccurate) film, and enjoy them all because they're all great and together provide a 360 degree perspective of a brilliant band's too short recording career. Enjoy.

Interesting. He had his flaws, but I still love the music and his poetry.

7/10 stars. An interesting look into the rise and fall of a rock star. Unfortunately not much info on his death. One thing is certain though, Morrison was definitely unstable.

This was a pretty good biography of Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors. I bought this book because I liked the film. It was interesting to learn about this person, and I thought the book was pretty informative.

I started reading this book after my father got me hooked on The Doors and I found it very informative and entertaining. It's been a long time since I read it, so I can't get too specific about anything without giving it another read. I'm definitely giving it another read.

As amazing as the music and history is surrounding The Doors, I am so thankful I never knew Jim. He is a fascinating person who could be shy and empathetic, an artistic poet that could transcend boundaries with his music, but incredibly violent, abusive and terrifying. I highly suggest this book to anyone interested in the history of The Doors, especially if people want to watch that awful Oliver Stone film that is only entertainment, not fact.
