I have to say. I don't generally think of myself as a fan of action/suspense novels, but apparently, when combined with the vampire genre I am. I was hesitant to start this series because it just didn't seem like my cup of tea, but once I start these books I find it impossible to put them down. I hear there is a third installment in the works and I am frothing at the bit.

This book picks up a year after the first one ends. Laura Caxton is called to Gettysburg where a cavern holding 99 coffins with vampire skeletons is found. Problem is, there was an even hundred and one appears to be on the loose. To make matters worse, he has the power to bring the other 99 back to life. Yikes. Madness and chaos ensues.

What I loved about this one was the tie in to Civil War history, it made it that much more interesting to me. Also, there was a lot less gore which I absolutely preferred. As I was reading this book, I kept thinking of what a great movie it would make. I hope they do it, that would be awesome.

I hesitate to give this book four stars though because it's not anything deep or meaningful. But it is highly entertaining so three stars seems like a rip off. If I could I would give it 3.75 stars. :)

Another great Laura Coxton book. Thankfully still no sparkly vampires, though some more thoughtful ones - of a sort. Usually do not enjoy historical fiction - especially Civil War historical fiction - but this was well done. The back and forth of present-day and Civil War-era was done in the right way to add depth to the story without changing the flavour established in the previous novel.

Better than the book before. With a cliff hanger ending.

I’ll start of by saying that I really should have read 13 Bullets before reading this book. While you can read it as a stand alone, you really will feel like you’re missing out on part of the story as frequent references are made through out. That aside, this was a pretty good vampire thriller. The pace is fast and the action is literally nonstop. Wellington does for vampires what he also did for zombies, giving them a twist that makes them different from other vampire books but no less frightening or soulless. My only real complaint with the story is that Wellington after creating a relatively indestructible vampire, gives them a weakness that just doesn’t fit in my opinion. But most readers, like me, will be too caught up in the action to worry about it until after the wild ride is over.

A perfect sequel to 13 Bullets. Wellington is on my must read list. Still keeps the Vampires scary, and gives you a little more insight to the mythology of the Vampires in his world. As soon as I was done, I picked up the next two books in his Vampire series (which I believe are the last two) Looking forward to the werewolf one as well. I'm ready to buy tickets to the first of his novels that's turned into a movie.

Great actions sequences, especially when 100 vampires attack the army and police on the Gettysburg battlefield.

99 Coffins is something a bit different. At first I found the dual narrative irritating even though I understood its importance to the story - it felt like it interupted the urgency of Laura's story but in the end I didn't mind so much, and in fact find the whole idea of his premise intriguing.
I generally don't like horror (with some notable exceptions) but I enjoyed this because it didn't dwell on the splatter and gore. It was dark but not gratuitous and the action was fast paced, taut and interesting.
I havn't read the first in the trilogy but that didn't really affect my reading of this, though it was obvious there was some back story I could have benefited from knowing. I do plan to pick up the next book to see how they track down A.
