A decent fantasy series by David Eddings that pales in comparison to his masterpiece, The Belgariad.

The content was, as ever, terrific. However, do not read this in the Kindle version: some idiot has ruined the layout by an incredibly huge amount of typos. There are several hundred full stops missing, which actually alters the meaning of some sentences. I had read the book in paperback some years ago, which is how I know (although some of the errors were so blatant, it was hard to miss them).

Rereading David Eddings' earlier works is like eating your favorite treats from childhood. Sometimes too sweet for an adult, but the nostalgia makes it delicious again. The author does use a lot of stereotypes and cliches in his work, but his writing is easily read and enjoyable. Perhaps at the time of writing a lot of the stereotypes weren't ads overused as they are now.
Recommend for a quick light read.

Didn't hold up so well over time. It was fine, but not great.

This was a reread. I remember loving this book as a teen but tbh it didn't really stack up to my adult standards. It's okay and the story rolls along quite engagingly but his depictions of women are cringe-worthy and I found some of the language made me want to get out my editing pen. Fairly average.
