It was cover art by Veronica Park that caught my attention with this book. And the illustration of a magpie is what I like most about the book.
Probably a bit too much YA for me? And story did not really go anywhere - mostly felt like first installment in a series.
The world building was a bit vague - tho lots of good and interesting ideas. Would have liked to hear more about the world they lived in and less internal dialogue of narrator which got quite boring and seemed mostly like thoughts of adult - not a young teenager. Would probably not have finisher if not on audio and short duration.
Audio narrator was good.

This read more like YA than anything else. There was a lot of potential and a lot of missed opportunity to fill out the world and characters.

The “decision” was the only factor pushing this story along but it even that was a bit dull.

The main characters problem solving capability felt uncharacteristic for a girl born and raised in such a communal environment. It was a huge disconnect and felt inauthentic to the world created.

Yet another speculative fiction novella that's made me cry. I didn't even know I liked speculative fiction, but there's a way that they explore human emotion that hits like a scalpel to the heart. Reid's quiet introspective moments were so poignant to me.

I can't leave without singing praises for Eva Tavares too! She narrated this beautifully! Definitely up there in my top three narrators since I started listening to audiobooks.

Normally I like novellas and they end when they’re supposed to but I think this should’ve been longer. Questions left unanswered, and not in an “ambiguous, makes you think” way but in a “that’s it?” way. 5/5 cover though
