I like satire and rants with the best of them, but this book, while funny, crossed a lot of lines for me. Some of it was spot on, like the selections about the women who went to the "scrapbooking convention" or his selection about appearing on the Bill O'Reilly Show. However, much of the book, I will admit, I skimmed because I didn't find that it held my attention.

Listened to this as an audiobook. Plenty of filler here as well as good stuff. Cross reads it himself, and he adds a lot to it that isn't in the book. For instance, he keeps accusing people of being of being lazy for getting the audiobook. He invites the woman from Flight of the Concords to read part of the book while she plays a fictional character in a nearby sound booth. All that being said, Cross can be quite annoying and preachy at times - and I usually agree with his views. But it gets to be too much sometimes. He is an outspoken Atheist and the way he approaches the topic of religion makes me wonder if he has any friends who aren't Atheists. Bottom line: good but not great.

Even though I didn't read this cover to cover, I feel like I read enough of it to give it the low rating that I did. I love Mr. Cross' standup and his work in tv shows and movies, but this book was awful. It read like a book you would find at Spencer's that was geared toward 14 year old boys.

Dude, this book sucks. Seriously. How can a book that is supposed comedy make me so depressed? If you're tempted, just do yourself a favor and read the chapter on his recent "break up." That'll cure ya!

While some of these entries come across as self-indulgent ramblings, others are spot-on and acerbically funny. I must admit, while reading the Scrapbooking entry, I (myself a scrapbooker) was like, "yup". Hilariously, if uncomfortably accurate. I'm only about a 1/3 of the way through at this moment. I do think it would be hard to read this non-stop, in novel format, but it's great for little bursts of humor and ridiculousness throughout the day, especially if you start to take yourself too seriously.

So, you know when satire stops being funny? Because it's no longer satire, it's more like a spot-on commentary of current events? Well, apparently David Cross had a time machine and took it to 2017 before writing the chapter, "The Golden Age of Cowardice". I would quote it here, but so much of the chapter is disturbingly relevant that I'd probably have to type the whole thing. Ouch. Wait...he also stayed long enough in 2017 to get material for the "Bill O'Reilly Fantasy" chapter. David Cross, are you sure you are not the reincarnation of Nostradamus?

At one point I was reading this in the doctor's office waiting room. I kept laughing out loud and everyone was looking at me awkwardly. It is ok though because I really enjoyed this book. David Cross is definitely one of my top 5 favorite comedians and he hit this out of the park. I would eventually like to hear the audio version because he reads it himself and it would be like hearing a long version of his stand up. He even included a piece from his web page that he released after it was found that [b:A Million Little Pieces|1241|A Million Little Pieces|James Frey|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1157865754s/1241.jpg|3140930] was fictional. It made me laugh even harder after all this time.

If you don't care for David Cross' brand of humor then this book is not for you. In fact if you only know him from Arrested Development then I would not recommend this book for you. But this book is hilarious if you don't fall into these categories.
