This is a fantastic book. A lovely fantastical mystery that reveals itself calmly and slowly. I absolutely loved it. And I will say no more about it, because it's best to read it without knowing anything of the plot beforehand.

This was an interesting story - very different. But the beginning is so slow.

4.5 for me!
Truly a unique story that has to be experienced at least once. The imagery is so rich and paired with an unfolding mystery, the book really had my interest the whole way through. It was nice to also find out the lead is BIPOC! His voice in the narrative is kind, gentle, and it really feels like he's talking to you as a friend. Overall, Piranesi is good, cozy—if a little forlorn (which I love)—but uplifting.

4.5 stars. I had no idea what to expect going in (and I don't know how you can really describe this book without revealing the entire plot), but this was really wonderful. I liked that even though the beginning of the book was confusing, I never really felt too lost or frustrated. Piranesi was just such a fun character, and even if as a reader you don't know what's going on, you still have a better idea than he does, so there was a lot of fun humor in his misconceptions. The story is fairly dark, but there's enough humor and lightness that it never feels overwhelming. I've never read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and I know it's supposed to be very different from this, but enjoying this so much did make me more eager to check it out.
