Beautifully written and a great, unique storyline. The entire book happens over 24 hours where all flights are grounded because of a huge snowstorm at Denver Intl Airport. The characters grow so wonderfully through this very short window of time, and it’s a perfect clear-cut ending of finally getting on their respective rescheduled flights and back into the outside world.
Graphic: Death, Car accident, Blood, Grief, and Panic attacks/disorders
Moderate: Mental illness and Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Minor: Alcohol, Infidelity, and Vomit

The setting of this story is cute: a major blizzard shuts down the Denver airport on New Years Eve, trapping main character Ryn long enough to face the trauma of her best friend's death. Love interest Xander has cute ideas to push her out of her comfort zone, and I really liked him... I wish Ryn has been a bit less self-involved so we could get to know him more. I liked their romance enough that I was sad to reach the end of the book. It's completely right that the book ends when the storm does, but I wasn't quite ready to leave the two.
Moderate: Car accident, Child death, and Death

This book was beautifully written, although it had some dark parts and touched on grief, it was such a cute romance and I loved the progression of this story.

"Maybe it's like diving. You can stand on the edge of the board, legs bent, arms above your head, counting to three over and over again, but until you actually make the effort to leap, until you actually push off that board, you'll stand there forever. Looking into the water. Wondering how cold it will be. Wondering how hard it will hurt if you do wrong."
Diving into this book expecting to read a fluffy, holiday contemporary because the cover screams winter and the prompt about being stuck in an airport during the last day of the year sounds like something that will surely clear my mind off from the last epic fantasy I had a hungover with.
But this book is way off what I was expecting because TCOSS tackles grief, trauma, and finding your identity after losing someone you love.
Grief stories always surprise me. I mean, I'm soft-hearted when a story premise revolves on death or losing someone. I've read a lot of books involving grief in the storyline but this book surprisingly delivered one of the most on-point characterization of the experience.
The romance subplot had a hard time convincing me to swoon. In fact, the chemistry between Reginald Schwarzenegger and Vegine Starbucks is blurry. The only scene that made me feel butterflies is that Eternal flame sing along at the food court.
Overall, this book is a recommended read if you're looking for a book that highlights grief experience set in a holiday season.
RATING: 3stars
