I thoroughly enjoyed this (the 2nd in the V.I. Warshawski series). Vic is charming and funny and hard-edged as always, and I love Paretsky's characterization of Chicago. This is really fun, if you enjoy the typical formulaic mystery novel. (I do, and enjoy this series a lot due to its hard-boiled female protagonist.)

When Chicago Black Hawk legend Boom Boom Warshawski is found dead in Lake Michigan, Private Eye V.I. Warshawski tries to determine whether her cousin died by accident, committed suicide, or was murdered.

I'm going to describe as an early version of the female detective - take the hard boiled (defined as tough, unsentimental, crime writing) male and make them female. Dated definitely and more action than character development. "bledsoe's lovemaking matched his kissing" made me laugh.

Only two books into the series, but the writing is consistently solid, and I adore the style and characters.

This is one of my favorites in this long-running series and I've reread it a few times.
