“Fortune Cookie Fortunes” introduces readers to the fortune cookie fortunes. One little girl tries to find out if the fortunes in her family’s fortune cookies came true. She finds that examples of the fortunes coming true are all around her. The theme of family and friendship are explored in this book. The illustrations are much like the illustrations in “Dim Sum for Everyone” Grace Lin creates a story that can resonate with almost any student. A possible extension activity would be having the students create their own fortunes and then passing the fortunes to other students. Another possible activity would be having students research other good luck charms, or omens from different countries around the world.
