i love all of them even in their shattered and broken state.
loving the angst, especially loving the increase of angst of the last 50 pages, but also
give me the third book or give me death.

“When the devil waged war in the heavens, even angels had to fall”.
This is the perfect example of a good sequel! The Silvered Serpents features yet another impossible mission, a broken crew and a unique adventure that gives me Goonies meets Raiders of the Lost Ark vibes, (but set it in Russia)!
I will admit that I will need to reread this series to fully grasp everything but this was a very enjoyable read.

the 0.5 stars git taken off because severin. and also because i'm kind of upset that the whole action was taken away from the actual russian cities - because they would be such intricate and interesting places to explore within a fantasy book.
i've been reading this for a month and a half lmao, but I really enjoyed this book! can't wait to get on to the next one.

Okay let me start by saying that I ADORED The Gilded Wolves. It was the perfect mix of a heist-y plot, epic characters you can't help but adore, and secrets! And The Silvered Serpents was just as good (if not better ahhh I just loved it so much)!
We uncover some pretty big and long-buried secrets that derail the whole story a bit - and help this book avoid the second book syndrome. Because the plot was just as twisty and mind-blowing as the one of TGW, we got to learn even more about the characters (talking about this, Miss Chokshi, will the pain EVER stop?! I want these babies safe and happy for like two hours, okay?), and we watched the relationships really develop. Not always in ways we would've liked - I am soooo sad about a certain pairing with zero communicative skills. (Not everything has to be dramatic and dark, Severin, god.)
Other than that I simply have to add that the rep in these books is superb in so many areas - we have characters of different racial heritages, sexual orientations, we even have autism rep. Exactly what we need in books.
"She understood how the world cultivated malice between girls, teaching them to bare their teeth when they might have bared their souls."
I naturally took notes while reading TSS and this is just one of the quotes that really hit me hard. Another reason to pick up this series? It deals with a lot of everyday issues and voices so many problems eloquently and poetically (so much so that it hurts sometimes.)
Now if you'll excuse me, I shall hide under my bed, clutch this book to my chest, and CRY because we are at least a year away from the third book and the wait will be torturous.
Ohhh I of course gave The Silvered Serpents 5/5 stars. It deserves every damn star.

So let me start off by saying that I have been seeing other people in the bookish community talk about their experiences reading this book and they’ve all been saying that it killed them and that it was so crushing (but sort of in good ways… it’s complicated). I’m a naturally dramatic person, but I wasn’t sure if everyone was just freaking out unnecessarily or not. I can now tell you for sure that they were NOT. This book is delightfully woven together and has a heartbreakingly tragic plot, but this is what makes it such a wonderful read. If I had to describe this book in two words it would be “beautifully brutal” (and yes I am very proud that I came up with this, specifically because of the alliteration).
