This is a terrific book for older kids that cleverly outlines the process of writing a story. The fun illustrations, with cartoon-bubble commentaries, explains all of the components (i.e. protagonist/conflict/resolution, etc.) that go into creating and telling a story without explicitly stating the pieces. This would be an effective book to use in an elementary classroom or for an aspiring young author.

Great book for children (and adults) to get those creative ideas moving.

After my parent's and I watched a PBS Nature special called "Octopus: Making Contact" I had to see what my library had in terms of picture books on our 'alien friend' the octopus: and that's when Maggie Tokuda-Hall's "Also an Octopus" popped up!

Fun, adorable, original and motivating even for the 26 year-old woman, the book is the perfect bedtime, breakfast time, car-pool-lane-time, tuning-your-ukulele-time tale! There is nothing to despise about the book, and the readers of all ages can reap the rewards of it's central message: a blank page is nothing but potential!

Walk, run, glide, swim, or bob to your local library and pick up a copy of this book. And while you are at it make a stack of waffles (the breakfast of rocket scientists, everywhere)!

I really like this because it asks "what if...."
An important thing to think about when writing!

A charming book that would be great to introduce the idea of stories and plot and imagination. It all starts with a little bit of nothing, and adding in some crazy ideas leads to unexpected results.

Such a cute book about storytelling and how children can learn to tell stories. I loved it and I even learned a new word cuz I had no idea what, Despondent, meant. And it’s a pretty big word for a picture book, but I loved it because it’s like learn a new vocabulary word. The rest of the book is totally written for it’s intended audience, including the vocabulary. Lol.
