if you recommend this book to someone, i will consider it an act of lesbian domestic terrorism.

this book is not great. it reads very much like a fan fiction with no plot or real character development and, of course, a bar they need to save!!!! things happen just cuz and are never really explained, and it extreeeeeemeeely stereotypical. Katie is a "straight" girl who cannot fathom bisexuality or butch people (the scene where she becomes ILL at the sight of boxers...) and Cassidy is the lesbian player who can't settle down. I'm positive the author of this book hates women and gay people in general. If you have a nemesis and want to punish them for their sins during their time on earth, you should recommend this book!

This could have been a 4 star read if there weren’t SO. MANY. STEREOTYPES. The love story was cute enough although the kisses and fade to black sex scenes were, there’s no other word for it, dull. Someone else said this was a f/f romance written for straight girls and I wasn’t sure what they meant until I read it. I wondered if it was written by someone who had never met an actual queer person in real life and got their knowledge of queer relationships solely from cliche sitcoms from the 90s. I even double checked when the book was published, thinking (hoping?) that maybe it was a re-release for a book originally published 20 years ago. It felt that incredibly outdated. I guess it was kind of enjoyable but I was so distracted and bothered by all of the gender and sexuality stereotyping throughout literally the entire book that it took away a lot of the fun. 3 stars is honestly generous.

There was so much wrong with this. I don’t know if I didn’t like it because I generally don’t read straight up romances? Maybe they are all li,e this and it’s just not my thing? I only read it because it was WLW.

It needed a better editor. There were many instances where I had to reread a paragraph because it didn’t make any sense. Like the part where Cassidy was visiting her friends apartment, and it said “she approached a cardboard cutout of HERSELF”. It was not a cardboard cutout of her, it was of her frodnd, whose place she was at. There were many confusing parts li,e this.

I also felt like both main characters were shallow stereotypes and I really started hating Katie. Why did she have to keep comparing Cassidy to a man? Is this what women do who have had relationships with men first? It was annoying.

I was disappointed by this book.

I was a little disappointed in this one. It was an enjoyable read, but the ending felt very rushed. The binary internal monologue from Katie was a little grating - always so "am I gay now? have I always been gay?", the lack of even a mention of the existence/possibility of bisexuality was pretty annoying.

This was cute, just a fluffy romance novel.

Like so many others, I am confused as to why sexuality was so binary in this book. Katie had to be straight or gay, there was nothing in between and it was sort of uncomfortable reading her grapple with it.

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨

.
A romantic comedy that follows Katie’s journey into self-discovery after being dumped by her fiancé for her best friend. After meeting Cassidy, Katie is propelled into a world of questioning who she is and what she’s doing.

I read this in one day seeing as it’s a very quick and easy read. I found the characters to be interesting and they made me want to keep reading. But, I found the plot to have so many holes. The conflicts were not detailed and the resolutions to the conflicts were either not mentioned again or not fully resolved. I’m not sure if the author intended for this to be a more surface level female romance, but that’s how it felt to me. This book left me wanting more character development and more realistic inner and outer conflict resolution.

This is a typical rom-com book, or so I assume having not read other types. I admit I only read this one because of the f/f relationship representation. I'm happy to see lgbt couples featured in all genres and I admit I was rooting for these too. While some of the writing was cringey (the predatory lesbian trope needs to die tbh) overall, it was a nice, light read.
