This book was A Trip (affectionate and derogatory). It was an easy read, and much needed after the last book I read, but it also felt super hamfisted in its depictions of someone dealing with her comphet. At times, the messiness was refreshing and I appreciated seeing adults tackle their sexuality, but other times it was uh... pretty offensive. The first 25% was really hard to get into bc Katie is NOT a likeable character. The middle is definitely my favorite part, but then then last 20% felt so incredibly rushed with a bunch of plot threads left loose. Not terrible, but not amazing. If you want wholesome non-problematic gay people, this ain't the book for you. If you want something with any level of depth, this also isn't for you. But if you want a mindless quick read, then sure why not.

An easy read for me but I didn’t feel like the characters had any real depth. The ending didn’t really feel like anything had been truly wrapped up, it just sort of ended.
I did enjoy the discussion on queer spaces and how life changing they can be and the importance of having them but also felt there was a lot of outdated views on sexuality in this. The MCs are just a few years older than I am and I can’t imagine this being set now even though it is. Would definitely place it in the early 2000s.

Unfortunately, I found the story & characters to be dull; perhaps it has to do with the way it was written, rather straight-to-the point expressed via dialogues rather than described in contextual or introspective manner, i.e., I think it lacked the depth that I needed to connect with the story. Little was explored in terms of the plot or character development. At the start, Katie held homophobic & heteronormative views, while Cassidy was not into commitment. The plot barely scrapped the surface to provide much sense on how they came from point A to reach the ending given.
