A soap opera star finally gets her big break as a movie star, when her teenage boyfriend that mysteriously broke things off turns out to be the stunt director on the movie. Cue drama.

It’s a cute premise and I like that the break-up obviously stemmed from a misunderstanding or poor communication. It was well-written, the dialogue flowed nicely and most characters were solidly developed. Most.

Sadie was a lovely character, and it was really easy to pick up on her personality, her feelings and her past. Ana, Ryan, the list goes on.

But Bo… the only scene where I actually felt close to liking him as a character was when he was around his family. He’s a very man-pain-y character (forced to work his way up in the world; girlfriend didn’t pine for him for a decade; etc.), but he doesn’t seem to recognise his man-pain. This character trait might work for other readers, but that just doesn’t appeal to me.

I really didn’t feel the romance in this. If anything, I found it pretty repulsive. I accept that that may have been because of my dislike of Bo, but it just felt like as a reader I was missing a connection to the romance. There was no development, it was just a jump back into old feelings that we hadn’t seen ourselves.

This wasn’t awful and I’d give another book by this author a read, but it just wasn’t for me.

Oh! I don’t know what to say. There were moments I really enjoyed this book. Sometimes it was hard for me to get into it. I think this author has great potential. I hope she really hits it out of the park for me one day. This is my third book from her. She’s gotten close each time, but just doesn’t quite make it. I love that she doesn’t shy away from writing about the trials and triumphs that real women go through. I look forward to reading more from her.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

Once Upon a Bad Boy gives us the story of Sadie - the actress we met in the earlier books. Overall - this was a really fun read!

Sadie shows up to the first table read of her new role - and learns the stunt coordinator is Bo. Her high school boyfriend and first love - but things had ended abruptly and they hadn’t seen each other in 11 years.

I love a good second chance romance and was really here for Sadie and Bo. I loved the first half of this book more than the ending - I felt like the story got a little bogged down in the multiple conflicts but I am happy with how it ended. I also didn’t love Sadie’s relationship with food at the beginning (having to “earn” her donut through intense workouts) - but understand this could be how she would be feeling.

I read this book at the beach and would say it’s the perfect spot to settle in for this story!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance reading copy in exchange for my honest review.

Once Upon a Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson is a charming second chance at love romance. Although this latest release is the third installment in the Sometimes in Love series, it can be read as a standalone.

Sadie Gold is a former soap star who is about to begin filming her newest role as the lead in an action film. She is hopeful this movie will finally prove to everyone that her success is the result of her talent and hard work and not her wealthy family's connections. Sadie is stunned to discover that her childhood friend and former boyfriend Bo Ibarra is in charge of stunt co-ordination. Their relationship abruptly ended eleven years earlier when he suddenly broke up with her. Sadie has gone on to achieve her life's dream of becoming a successful actress but she has never quite gotten over  Bo.  Will their tangled history affect their professional relationship?

Sadie is a hardworking actress who is a little nervous about her upcoming role. But she is confident she is the right person to bring her character to life. She is thrilled to be filming on location in her hometown and she has been enjoying reconnecting with her best friends.  Sadie is sassy and self-confident, and although she does harbor a few insecurities, she does not allow them to deter him from chasing her dreams.

Bo is a partner in an up and coming stunt co-ordination company and he is hoping his current project will be a huge break for their business. He is very close to his family and while he is comfortable with himself and his life, he does harbor a few insecurities due to his family background.

Despite a few qualms about mixing business and pleasure, Sadie and Bo are quickly embroiled in a red hot romance. Their scenes crackle with sexual tension but they also share an emotional connection.  Sadie still does not understand why Bo ended their previous relationship the way he did but she is willing to leave the past in the past. But Sadie is keeping a pretty big secret from him and when she is forced to reveal the truth, will she lose Bo for good?

Once Upon a Bad Boy is a truly captivating romance that is engaging and uplifting. Sadie and Bo are vibrantly developed, three dimensional characters who are quite likable. Their romance is sizzling hot but there is not any doubt they are still in love. However, outside forces and a long held secret threaten to derail their romance.  Melonie Johnson brings the novel to a realistic and completely satisfying conclusion. This newest release in the Sometimes in Love series is my personal favorite and I HIGHLY recommend it to readers who enjoy contemporary romances.

NEVER SAY NEVER

But Sadie is not prepared for the wild turn her own life is about to take.

WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE

But the future is still unwritten…and getting there, together, means coming clean about painful secrets and slashing through nasty tabloid rumors while trying to control the attraction that crackles between them. Maybe it’s finally time for them to walk off into the sunset and into a true and lasting love?

Thank you Goodreads and St. Martin's Press for a chance to read Once Upon a Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson!

This truly was a break your heart, smash it completely and melt it all over again. There isn't really anyway for me to say much about the book as far as details without giving away spoilers and I don’t want to do that. I got this book in a goodreads giveaway! It was a lovely read. Nice characters it keeps you interested and entertained. If these are the kind of books you enjoy the long-lost love finally found then this book is for you. Happy reading everyone enjoy!

Once Upon a Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson is the third steamy book in a series of stories about five friends, some since they were very young. Having read the first two books, I was looking forward to learning which remaining friend would be highlighted. This book focused on Sadie, the actress, and Bo, the stunt coordinator in her new blockbuster movie, also her friend turned boyfriend from when they were young children to teens. The two of them did not have an amicable breakup, so you know this reunion would not be a pretty one. I enjoyed the majority of this book, but had an issue toward the end with something that had happened in Sadie’s past that I felt was completely unnecessary to add to the story. I know the author used it as the drama of their relationship, but do not feel it fit the genre of this book. For me, bringing heavy topics into fun stories does not work, especially if I feel the author is doing it to add in a political stance, regardless of which side they may be on, just not something I care to read about in a book meant to be for enjoyment. Thank you to St. Martin’s Paperbacks and NetGalley for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a tough one for me. It's 2nd chance with extra secrets. I really appreciated how the big "oh no" was handled but the rest of the story was meh for me.

I am new to this series, but found Once Upon a Bad Boy to be an enjoyable beach read. It was interesting to read about stunt coordination in movies, and I enjoyed the addition of the horses and family ranch. I found both characters to be likable, although their big issues from their past that kept them apart seemed a bit glossed over and not completely dealt with. I found Bo's boss/business partner to be unnecessarily gruff, and Bo's sister was also unlikable, even after she explained her reasoning for her attitude and actions. However, for readers looking for an quick, easy read for their vacation- Once Upon a Bad Boy should fit the bill.
