So violent and gory! And completely twisted. The lack of peace and happiness in these books soothes my black heart. On to part 3.

Good god I thought being prepared would lessen the shock at the level of smut. Nope. The World building and political intrigue though!!!!

This second book is such an improvement over the first one in my opinion.
More detail, descriptions and attention are given to the world and the creatures in it (still, a lot is left to the imagination, which while not necessarily bad, can lead to readers relying on some very generalised ideas).

The plot twist towards the end is pretty cool, the story doesn't drag and there are a few quite interesting side characters (Akiem, Carline). The MCs aren't one note and do feel pretty convincing, apart from a few questionable decisions/actions that border on plot contrivances. I do somewhat dislike Nye's arc, since it feels a bit on the nose, but perhaps it works out in book 3.
