It was lovely going back to the world of the dark crystal and seeing some of the old original characters from the movie.
However, I found it hard to like the new characters (i know for some of them that was the point)
I rated this vol 3 stars for a warming up i look forward to see how the plot develops to give a final verdict for this series. This first vol was very much introducing the players and setting up the plot.
For a brief summary its been 100 years since the movie the dark crystal, Jen and Kira have ruled and brought a long period of peace but now they are old and haven't been involved much in the daily workings of the world. Bring in a new character who comes from the firelings a clan living in the center of Thra. She asks for help but through misunderstandings and confusion Chaos ensues. Now the question is who is right and who is wrong and can Thra be saved.
However, I found it hard to like the new characters (i know for some of them that was the point)

Welcome back to the world of the Dark Crystal. Originally this was to be a movie sequel, but after that fell through, i am SOOOOOOOOOO happy that it was made into a graphic novel so I can delve back in and gush and gush and gush.
This story picks up 100 years after the events of the movie. Jen and Kira are still around as the leaders, or almost deities of the Thra, but things are not smooth. The Crystal is losing its light. A fireling has come to this land to seek help and a shard of the crystal to help heal his own land.
I am loving every bit of this graphic novel. The art and colorwork is amazing. The story, while similar to TDC is different, and we meet new characters. However, 100 years is a long time, and the gelfling are not as nice as they once were. I can not wait to continue this series.

This one is a mixed bag for me. I love the art and I was more than psyched about a continuation of the main story. A sequel! Sign me up. That being said, if i remember my lore correctly then this book has.. well pooed all over it. The skeksis and urru were once one being,and though they separately did not strive to come back together they did not fight it. And they most certainly did not... reside inside the crystal once they became one again. They came from another plane of existence. So i think the continuity of this series is bollocks but over all I am enjoying it.

This is just the first issue of what promises to be a very fun and very beautiful series. I do plan to wait for the volume to come out and then hopefully I'll continue this one :) 3*s
