I liked the characters. I liked how the story unfolded with seemingly disparate characters and plots ending up being deeply connected. I am interested enough to want to see how the rest of the story unfolds, and will continue with the series. Again, I think glowing praise about the other series made this read suffer in comparison.

This is my first time reading a Daniel Abraham novel and I really enjoy his writing style. I love dialogue, and Daniel Abraham is all about dialogues!
There are a lot of characters in this book, and several different character POV chapters. I thought I was going to have a hard time keeping up with them, but I had no difficulties what-so-ever. I had more difficulties keeping the thirteen different races straight. This was easily solved by referencing back to some fanart that I found.
Well done, Daniel Abraham! But there is some sort of missing spice to this recipe. I can't put my finger on it. I want to say action, but there is action. I lost my interest around the last 150 pages. After Geder got his big HOO-RA the story took a major zzzz dive with me.
