I hear that [a:Daniel Abraham|134|Daniel Abraham|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1207149629p2/134.jpg]'s other series, The Long Price Quartet, is revolutionary in it's approach to the fantasy genre. The Dragon's Path, while a really interesting and well-written read, isn't as game-changing, and it's a rather conventional fantasy novel in my opinion. I think hearing so much praise for The Long Price Quartet may have set me up for disappointment in any event.

I liked the characters. I liked how the story unfolded with seemingly disparate characters and plots ending up being deeply connected. I am interested enough to want to see how the rest of the story unfolds, and will continue with the series. Again, I think glowing praise about the other series made this read suffer in comparison.

Based on the story and characters, I thought this was written before the Long Price Quartet which I loved, loved, loved. The Dragons Path seemed "first book" to me and I felt I have read The Dragon's Path or stories like it before. There are some neat plot twists and I'm going to finish the trilogy but I didn't fall in love with the book. But I think the trilogy is worth reading.

This is a weird one for me. I love it to death but I can see how it would turn some people off.

I saw second book in this series in "New Releases by Authors You've Read" and I was thinking about reading this new installment, but I cant remember a thing about this first book. It's been a year, sins I read this book, so either I'm going senile or this book is unremarkable.

DNFed at 74%. I tried so hard to get into this and just couldn't. Then, at around the 73% mark, the (rival) lizard-man banker trope reared its ugly head and I quit trying.

A medieval fantasy in a low-magic setting where the emphasis is on economics.

Definitely an epic fantasy. I've been spoiling myself with grimdark and I'm wanting The Dragon's Path to have more of a despair tone to it. Alas! This is not that kind of book, Karen!

This is my first time reading a Daniel Abraham novel and I really enjoy his writing style. I love dialogue, and Daniel Abraham is all about dialogues!

There are a lot of characters in this book, and several different character POV chapters. I thought I was going to have a hard time keeping up with them, but I had no difficulties what-so-ever. I had more difficulties keeping the thirteen different races straight. This was easily solved by referencing back to some fanart that I found.

Well done, Daniel Abraham! But there is some sort of missing spice to this recipe. I can't put my finger on it. I want to say action, but there is action. I lost my interest around the last 150 pages. After Geder got his big HOO-RA the story took a major zzzz dive with me.

I went back and forth between giving this 3 or 4 stars. It's a slooooow start but I ended up really enjoying the second half.

A great epic political fantasy. The audiobook was great as well. I hope book 2 keeps the trend going.
