This books shows the difference between the nomatic lifestyle that our main character is used to, and the world that she lives in now. This battle is shown through all the conflicts in the story and how she interacts with the other characters in the book, especially her husband and her daughter. Overall, I thought this book was amazing. It again shows the lives of people living in rural Pakistan and how different it is to not only more Urban Pakistan, but also the Western world. The book leaves you wanting more, and the next novel wasn't published until about ten years after this one was released. I am so happy that I just have to wait for Amazon to ship it to me, instead of all this time. Very excited to see what happens to her next.

Same as Shabanu: I can't remember much about this book but I LOVED it when I was little--I'll have to re-read it. Seems like very valid mixed reviews.

Not as good as Shabanu, but it was good to have a sequel. Sadly, Shabanu's life doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to.

I read Shabanu for school, and kind of enjoyed it, but I really wanted to see what would happen, so I read the sequel, Haveli.

It was pretty good. There was a lot of sad stuff, and only some of the issues that were apparent in Shabanu were resolved in Haveli. I was a little disappointed actually. The plot was good, but the writing was not fantastic.

I really liked how the author built Shabanu's character, and that was really interesting. However, Shabanu was the only character featured that way, and there are actually quite a few fairly prominent characters in the book.

The series does however really make you aware of child marriages and marriages for convenience. Shabanu, the main character of the book is 18 when the book takes place, and was married to a much much older man when she was 13 as pretty much a peace offering.

So, overall, I enjoyed this sequel, but there were a few flaws. I would recommend reading Shabanu, the book that came before it, and if you like it, reading Haveli. I am definitely going to reading the next book in the trilogy!
