That all too rare biography that neither glorifies or villifies its subject, this book is a very readable account of the fascinating life of Pierre Bernard. So much more than the story of yogo, the author give a sense of the moral codes, out of control journalism, and celebrity cults of the early 1900's.

a truly interesting history of yoga in the US - sometimes repetitive details too much. curious links to many people known in history since the early 1900s. yoga, so scandalous, so hippy, so healthy -hopefully here to stay.

Slow to unfold. Skimmed most of the rest of the book. Seems like it just folds in on itself without much understanding of where it wants to go. A ton about individuals you don't really care about, and you can't tell whether we should sympathize with Pierre (The Great Oom) or side with the people who are portrayed as Out To Get Him.
