I really like how irsherwood can depict how things were during the rise and near end of ww2. The characters he wrote about in the diary entries were all so interesting and again how they all interacted during this time period.

2.5 stars. Some interesting / dull parts. Pacing was slow at times but the characters are well fleshed out

A largely ridiculous and often nasty cast of characters squabbling through life under the growing shadow of political turmoil.  Truly tragicomic — I laughed just as much as I worried.
