Это не твердая фантастика, как обещали в комментариях. Я бы это вообще фантастикой не назвал. Скорее нудная и не цепляющая фэнтезийная хренотень.

Legitimately one of the best sci fi books I’ve ever read, and some of the best world building in general. The world is *so* different and information about it is given to the reader in a really natural way. Also it’s just so cool! The mystery is incredible, too, I never once thought I knew what was going on, and I never felt smarter than the main character (though the same can not be said absolutely our relative emotional intelligences). All in all an incredible book and a good story, which seems to be setting up for a sequel, though if it doesn’t exist I’m happy enough to leave things as they are.

I feel like I better read the sequels so I retain all the hard won understanding from this one: https://blogendorff.ghost.io/book-review-the-quantum-thief/

This novel belongs to the group that throws you into the middle of a universe, and lets you try to figure out what is going on as you read.
One could very easily put this aside after a few pages and dismiss it because what-the-hell-is-going-on-here-anyway. I'm glad I resisted that urge, it was actually a very fun read.
Can't say I understand all of what went on, but enough to follow the story and perhaps to look at the sequels....

This book immediately floods the page with the most high-concept bullshit it can at high speeds and basically never stops. It has introduced the term "combat autism" into the lexicon of my friend group as it's one of the many phrases that are just thrown at the reader to create a very specific tone, and it rarely slows down to explain anything that isn't especially relevant to the action at hand.
The actual plot of the book - once you peak beneath the veneer of fun science fantasy - felt very much like an excuse to explore its setting. The setting of the Oubliette is immediately compelling, to be fair, and the characters that populate it are well-voiced and fun to read. The resolution comes very quickly and feels rushed, but I also think that if this book had gone on for an extra 50 pages, I'd have lost my appetite for it.
A fun read that I'd recommend to anyone who wants to read Neuromancer or Snowcrash with a more updated cultural view of the baroque future, fans of gentleman thief archetypes, or anyone who has ever looked at the permissions section of a Windows file system and thought "well that's pretty cool".

I love the way the book it's structured. Every phrase, every paragraph, every word serves a purpose. There is nothing just to describe the world, everything is about the plot, one way or another.

Started off amazing, but got super messy and hard to follow. Reminded me a bit of Snow Crash.

In the beginning I was wandering what the hell was going on in the book.
Most phrases didn't make sense.
Words and concepts completely invented.
There was no way to understand what was happening and I was tempted to stop right there.
But I decided to give it a try and slowly while moving forward, all the pieces fell into place.
