unsurprising that i didn't love this smutty uncomplicated fantasy, however i was definitely entertained and honestly i'll read the next book because it took so little brainpower to read

The first book is very good, and if you've heard anything about this series, you've likely heard that the 2nd book expands upon the series greatly and is extremely enjoyable. This 1st book serves as the setup for a lot of things to come, and (w/o spoiling) character relationships evolve greatly in the future. Not the strongest book in the series, but solid and entertaining

Where to begin... this was just horrible. Literally a remix of Twilight. I don't get why this is popular. Read something better written, please.

This book was really great at setting the foundation for the second book. It really helped with the world building, but as a result, it was a little lacklustre. It was kind of like the first chapter of a book: you have to get through it so you can understand the rest of the book. It’s the first chapter of the series. That being said,
Spoilerthe Beauty and the Beast theme was interesting but made half the book very slow. I appreciate the dedication to slowly laying out information that would foreshadow the conclusion and allowing us to see their love grow naturally, but i nearly gave up at the halfway point because of how much Feyre seemed to lose her sense of self as she fell in love with Tamlin. She became more comfortable and unshackled by the worries of her mortal life, yes, but she almost became meek and docile in the home. Guess that kind of also explains why she didn’t fight to stay when Tamlin sent her back to the mortal realm. Everything can be explained away, but the main character was disappointing.

I did not care for this book, but it may have been due to some soft spoilers I knew before starting. The writing, world building, etc. was all fine. I am really surprised that this series is this popular, because if I didn't know a soft spoiler for the next book, I am not sure I would continue the series? The oddest thing about this book is that it kickstarts a large series, but as a standalone unit, it is just a bunch of recycled other stories. SO WEIRD. Like no one on the internet talks about how it is several other stories repackaged. This book is really just a device to setup somethings for the rest of the series. I just finished the second book, which is MUCH better and I enjoyed. I would continue reading and not judge the series by this book alone. I don't know why this book bothered me so much, but I guess I was disappointed after all the fodder online. I expected the first book to be something special to hook people in, and for me, it was just ok.
