Initially the story kind of meandered through events that don’t seem to have much value to a storyline. Everything does tie in an intricate plot that even extends past its own series. As things develop it becomes quite chaotic and confusing but it is good. You get sucked into the story and into feyre. You must know what happens next even though it breaks her and it breaks you.

Oh boy, so many things to say here. First of all, this was the first series in over 10 years that I DNF'd (never got past the first book). The writing is mediocre at best, the descriptions are trite and cliche, and it reads like fanfiction written by a middle-schooler. The main character, Feyre, is whiny, unlikable, and overall bland and annoying, she reads like a textbook self-insert mary sue who is the best at everything, except being girly because she's "not like other girls". The plot makes no real sense, and the story takes forever to move forward, usually with more focus on the smutty romance bits than the actual storyline. This story has just taken Katniss from the Hunger Games, poorly reskinned her, and dumped her in a wannabe dark and raunchy beauty and the beast ripoff. I could maybe see how it could be enjoyable for a horned up middle schooler/ early high schooler, but this book is not for anyone who wants actual substance to their stories.

Of the series, this book is the slowest read. It's a lot of exposition, but I find it worth it to get to the second and third books. A Court of Thorns and Roses has some sexual content but should be appropriate for 16+; that's about when I read it. (The second and third books in the series are more explicit and mature.)

wonderful book by a wonderful author, I love SJM and this series. only reason it isn't 5 stars is the issue of it is not for every audience- it is for a set group of people and doesn't have a large reach. that being said, the characters are realistic and well-written and plot details are superb.

3 for quality but 5 for a solid escapism fantasy! No think, just fantasy.

This book felt like an extremely long prologue to the rest of the series. The plot was lacking until the last hundred and fifty or two hundred pages when
Spoiler Feyre was trapped under the mountain and put through the 3 grueling tasks to ultimately die and become resurrected as high fae. Until that point, it was pretty much about how Feyre was trapped in the Spring Court by Tamlin as they fell in love, despite his extreme toxicity.

Wow. Okay so I almost put this book down on a multitude of occasions but I'm really glad I didn't.

A big chunk of the book is very slow paced but damn that ending those last few chapters were just so good. I was unable to put the book down!

I also like the way that it didn't really end on a cliff hanger like most series do. So if you aren't a person that enjoys reading series you can still read this book and be content with that as an ending for the story as a whole.
