i enjoyed the last 10% of the book, the rest of it made me want to bang my head continuously into a cinderblock wall.
i get that she had to set up the world and make the ~love story~ make sense but jesus it was slow.
and the set up with rhysand just feels so out of place in the situations.
this put me in the worst reading slumpā€¦ i wasnt able to finish anything since i picked this book up in MAY and i had to basically hold myself at gunpoint to finish it. itā€™s AUGUST.
feyre is illiterate as a plot point but sheā€™s also an idiot. being uneducated and being an imbecile are different things, and she is both.
tamlin is boringgg, and worse, heā€™s blonde. i cannot bring myself to gaf abt him. blond men are a plague.
amarantha is a drag, she couldā€™ve been a really interesting villain but instead we get these weak little challenges. likeā€¦
that riddle was the easiest thing iā€™ve ever read (and CORNY, especially with it coming from someone who is supposed to be so heartless and wretchedā€¦)
ā˜¹ļø
other ā€œvillainā€ is interesting but i have to sayā€¦
i know that rhysand is the endgame but jfc chill w the descriptions of his beauty while youā€™re ~enduring deathly trials bc you are so unbelievably in love~ lmao
šŸ¤ØšŸ¤ØšŸ¤Ø
also, the phrase ā€œmy bowels turned wateryā€ needs to die a fiery death... why did she say it three timesšŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ GIRL now iā€™m sick to my stomachšŸ˜
whatever, iā€™ve now read it and i never have to endure it again and iā€™ll know wtf my friend is talking about when she references it. thatā€™s enough for me  ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Mostly no complaints except that the reveal of the
curse on Tamlin
was way too easy, it felt like a tying up of loose ends and wasnā€™t cleverly intertwined into the story, much too convenient. I also solved the riddle immediately??

Iā€™m also not sure I love the way information is introduced in the writing style, sometimes I was like did I miss something? but itā€™s forgivable.

The story feels innovative and fresh though which is exciting.

I loved this book! It unlocked a whole new world for my imagination to go to. I've never read about faeries, but I remember trying to find faeries as a child, and this appealed to that nostalgia. I loved the intriguing characters and their actions/conversations were entertaining. I heard the series gets better, so I'm excited to read the next book!

Colonizer trash meets beauty and the beast, plot requires main character to have no sense, does not have any actual character development, dubious consent for so so many scenes. Very my first romance novel vibes.

Feyra is not like the other girls, she's special, she's not hot but ever fairy man desires her, she's unable to listen to the most basic instructions, beauty and the beast is about compromise, this is about ignoring your boyfriend is rich because his daddy owned people and having your main character intoxicated and/or enchanted and/or manipulated into every sexual situation then claiming it's love. It's about having zero feelings of guilt when you get other people in trouble or dead and being consistently rewarded.

I have never disliked a text more than this one.

This was the second-worst book Iā€™ve read in years. The charactersā€™ motivations were entirely unbelievable, purely convenient to drive the plot forward. I found myself strongly disliking the insipid, self-absorbed main characters and preferring the ā€œdespicableā€ minor characters who at least had some spice and grit. It was also badly written - every phrase and sentence trite and expected, nothing lovely about it. I finished the book merely out of dull fascination that this schlock is so popular ā€” There are much better retold fairytales, romances, adventure stories, whatever aspect of this you might be seeking, thereā€™s a better option out there.
