3.5 stars. It was a real and raw portrayal of gang life in LA in the 70s, but the writing style was so disjointed that it took me away from the content so often. I couldn't tell when certain stories happened and if it was before or after a particular life lesson was supposedly learned. There were also stories that were included that I never understood why they were included. They were completely separate from the rest of the book with no apparent lesson learned or forward movement.

An excellent first-person account of how oppressive systems and structures create poverty and crime. Sociologically: Chef’s kiss!

Toxic masculinity and ableism are deeply entrenched in this lifestyle, so approach with caution.
