This book got me out of a reading slump. American psycho meet the art scene.
A powerful exploration of gender roles, consent and sexuality.
This book was disturbing, gruesome and shockingly hilarious.

"I wonder what the fuck I have to do for people to recognize me as a threat, you know? It's like... am I even doing this shit? Have I even fucking done anything?"

I keep saying I won't read more books like this, and I end up only reading books like this -- model-like waif girls who stumble through drugs, alcohol, vomiting (so much vomiting), questionable sex, and with smeared mascara and broken faces, always stare in the mirror to see how relentlessly beautiful they are.

See: The Guest by Emma Cline, My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, Fruit of the Dead by Rachel Lyon

What redeems "Boy Parts" from this tiring blueprint is the Gen Z sense of humor that gives the unreliable narrator, Irina, some personality. She's self-aware, albeit narcissistic, damaged, abusive and horrible, and going through her mental circus with her is incredibly entertaining and honestly thrilling. Eliza Clark gives structure and purpose to the mania, and her general commentary on pretty privilege, consent, sexual violence, and women's shift in power, is really well done.

I recommend this if you're okay with hateable and gross characters, graphic content, and moral ambiguity.

This was genuinely so fucking wild. It's like a modern American Psycho set around the power imbalance women have.

this book was absolutely crazy. i did not realize what i signed up for when i started it and HOLY COW. the plot twist about halfway through had me legitimately screaming "WHAT THE FUCK"  at my kindle for several minutes. loved the tension, intensity, and pacing. i felt like the characterizations and use of an unreliable narrator were done in a way that really elevated the experience of reading, i was completely captivated.  absolutely phenomenal debut novel, a new top recommendation.

What the actual fuck did i just read? What was the plot of the book here? What are we talking about here? Why is it written so poorly? I cant get over "as the kids say, woke". I feel like you're going to be a best selling author, at least use proper grammar or have at least a plot? Worst book I have read so far. It's also tetering on the edge of racist and has waaayyy too much sexual assault in it. I did not like reading from the point of view of someone who was basically a r*pist. It felt like the loophole to not break that line for the author was to add "and then i asked if he was ok". So uncomfy and so confusing.
