I Could Not Be Hindu : The Story of a Dalit in the RSS by Nivedita Menon, Bhanwar Meghwanshi

Bhanwar Meghwanshi is the voice.
In the honest and heartfelt memoir of a Dalit in the RSS, Meghwanshi harks back to his days in the RSS in pursuit of reviving the glorious Hindu Nation and the incident which made him a sharp critique of the hypocrisy of the RSS and the right-wing Hindutva forces.
This book is a necessary read for every Indian who wants to get a first-hand account of the casteist practices which still haunt our country and the struggle against it.
Very lucid in its language, the book will expose you to the harsh realities of the Hindu Rashtra, which shall only remain the wet dream of self-interested Savarna Hindus.

The book shows the not so smooth journey of the author in to various approaches and ideologies. He just lays down the things as he sees.

Phenomenal memoir. Bhanwar Meghwanshi gives me hope that Dalit-Bahujan consciousness will eventually rise above the brahminical myth that chains them to the Sangh as their footsoldiers, and will set them towards the path of political revolution.

Meghwanshi is a fierce and fearless social justice warrior. And I don't mean social justice warrior as it used these days - to praise arm chair activists who are often dumbly privileged and are just co-opting the term because it's cool. No. Meghwanshi is a true embodiment of Ambedkar in modern times.
I appreciated reading about his journey from Sanghi to Dalit activist. There's a lot I did not know about the RSS or about the Dalit struggle and this book opened my eyes.

This is such an important read. Meghwanshi is a great writer who tells his story from being a Dalit in the RSS to an activist clearly and with great passion. Most insightful is the way he writes about the inner workings of the RSS - the cult-like brainwashing, their disguised hatred of women and minorities, the way the people on the bottom are used as cannon fodder by those in power. Recommend this book to a BJP supporter today!
