i feel like what really saved this book was chapters 57-95. i think this could've been better written as a novella. i didn't enjoy the first half outside of the main characters conversations with the old lady and her friends. i had to switch to the audiobook around chapter 27. i did like the social commentary and it felt very reflective of the times we're currently living in. i didn't mind that the romance/sapphic subplot wasn't a focus either. all in all, it was okay, but i wouldn't read it again.

This modern-day reimagining of Taxi Driver blisters right along Damani's wild, self-destructive path, but I felt like it pulled back a little too much in what should have been its biggest moment. Loved the ending, though.

A book that will linger with me because of the very distinct voice of Damani, the narrator. I probably could have read 200 more pages of her interior monologue simply because I really like this type of.. dry, but sharp, matter of fact writing, however at the same time I found the story a bit too meandering at times. But Priya Guns is definitly an author I will keep an eye out in the future!
