Definitely liked it a lot more then the first. Still not a big page turner (hence why it isnt a 5* for me), but a lot of fun to read. We got to see a lot more between Conrad and Jane which was really important, but what I loved most was how much more impactful all the characters felt, like Team Truth is amazing, Beau is kinda my fave right now and I cant wait to see more of his and Jane's bickering (which felt different than Jane and Conrads bickering). All in all, good book, you can tell they definitely hit their groove with this one!

I just really enjoy these cozy mysteries. Jane is such an agent of chaos. And I love her friend support system.

It's always a good, low-stakes mystery with a dash of romance thrown in. But I'm not gonna lie. If things don't start heating up between Jane and the Agent soon. I'm going to have request that he step aside and let Beau do his job as the simmering best friend with such latent chemistry potential.

And I'm living for when Fiona finally gets her man in the sheriff.

In the second installment in the Jane Ladling Mystery series, we return to the The Garden of Memories Cemetary in the small town of Aurelian Hills.

There is another dead body (of course). It wouldnā€™t be a mystery if there wasnā€™t. This time itā€™s the body of a ā€œhard hittingā€ journalist and former classmate, that gets left on Janeā€™s front porch.

She obviously calls Special Agent Conrad Ryan, to help her solve the mystery. She is still fighting her feelings for him as she doesnā€™t want to fall under her family's curse where the women are fated to lose any man they love. You get to see more of Conradā€™s personality in this book and we also get introduced to his brother Wyatt.

There is also more of Beau and we are introduced to three of his friends Trick, Isaac & Holden. Beau is a lot more open in this book than he was in book 1. I think there is more to him than meets the eye. We shall see.

Jane is just as crazy in this book, as she was in the first and you get just as much of her inner dialogue as you did before, especially in the scene where she accidentally swallows the seed of a Thorn Apple and starts to hallucinate that a tree is talking to her and giving her advice.

Jane is also just as confidant. She obviously starts investigating the murder herself again with her friends and Rolex at her side. After all, there is no one better than her to solve this mystery.

The only thing I donā€™t like about these books are the covers. I hate to admit that even though I really enjoyed this book, I would walk past it if I saw it on a shelf in a book store, however Iā€™m going to continue with this series. Iā€™m looking forward to book 3, Game of Graves.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.

The author definitely improved on the ratio between romance and sleuthing. I enjoyed the mystery in this book more than the first. The ending also felt a bit more complete. Very cute book, and I always enjoy Jane's strange inner monologue.

I was a bit exasperated by Jane and Conrad's relationship. She kept pushing him away and I'm growing tired of the back and forth. Hopefully with this ending, the third one will bring and end to the back and forth. I also hope we see Conrad's brother a bit more, and see into his past.
