The only thing I would add, would be that the end plot twist is somewhat predictable, as are a lot of the characters actions, but other than than it is an amazing book.

Full disclosure: I saw the mini series years ago and hated it. I only bought this when I saw the 10 page introduction. King discusses the process of writing this story and getting it made, which was fairly interesting during the writing bits, not so much for the other part. Also, I'll admit, if it has King's name on it and I've read the book or seen the show/movie, I'll probably pick it up just to own a copy. Even if I didn't like it. But I cannot, in good faith, give this more than 3 stars.

Basically anything I read from the King gets 5 stars. This creepy tale told entirely in screenplay format was interesting and eerie.
King wrote this story long ago specifically as a mini series for TV. Because of this certain things needed to be toned down for the viewing audience.
A huge nor’easter is hitting Maine and with it, it brings a dark powerful force who will stop at nothing to get what it wants. Lots of chills and kills.

I watched the miniseries a long time ago (on VHS, to give you an idea), so I had a vague idea of what Storm of the Century was about going into this, but when I saw a copy in the Little Free Lending Library, I felt like I had to give it a try.
This was just mediocre for me. I have only read one other book by King (The Green Mile), but I feel like the screenplay format didn't work as well as King's novels. It was really drawn out, but not all that suspenseful. By the end, I was just pushing through to finish it rather than because I really cared what happened (which ended up being kind of predictable anyway). I think this format didn't allow King to do what he does best, actually write and describe and create. It fell flat for me.
The story itself was alright. And the characters were pretty well-developed, which King said in the introduction that he was nervous about in his attempt to create a whole community. So that was a success.
The biggest issue for me was the format. King just wasn't able to describe scenes in a way to make them horrific or suspenseful. I was able to visualize them, but in the end they fell flat.

I've always been a fan of this story, and part of the reason is its simplicity. Even with the supernatural horror, this is -- similar to The Mist -- really about the horrors of humanity. How people turn on each other when the power goes out and lives are lost.
It also has one of the most devastating endings of King's work. Not only the level of Cujo or Pet Sematary, but not far off, either.

A fun suspenseful screenplay that leaves readers wondering what will come next. The story is fast paced. The screenplay format adds a unique way to provide lots of imagery details in the scenes. The story unfolds unexpectedly. The reader is easily able to be submersed in the island life. Delightful callbacks to Dolores Claiborne add an element of fun to readers in the know.
When the reader finishes, one is left with the desire to immediately watch the mini series.

While some of my normal King complaints apply here, having everyone trapped on an island adds to the tension.
