This is one of the most pulp adventure books I've ever experienced, and even while I'm amused by it, I really appreciate the ultra-nobility of the hero, and enjoy the adventure.
The pacing did feel a little inconsistent for me, and I got frustrated by the book dragging on with no sign of Dejah Thoris, but overall a mostly fun read that will have me continuing the series.
I was a little concerned about racist overtones when the 'black' tribe first showed up, but really, they just ended up being one more faction in with the red, green and white tribes, and I didn't find anything offensive overall.
