first, this book has a feel to it that could be suitable for even younger audiences than other YA books. I tend to enjoy the other side of the spectrum so in that regard, not my cup of tea.
that being said, Miss Meteor was such an enchanting story of friendship and celebrating otherness, just lovely through and through.
it's really no surprise, both of the authors are absolutely brilliant. I'm just gonna be here waiting for their next collab if you needed me

I waited a few days after reading to write a review for this book. I really wanted to sit on it and reflect. This book is beautifully written, the authors have a wonderful writing style and the imagery is SO incredibly vivid. I particularly love the description of food at Selena’s diner. The characters are incredibly distinct and multidimensional, even the so called villain. This book is Stardust if Stardust was a lighthearted teen novel about a ridiculous town and a local beauty pageant. So nothing like stardust except for the star falling to earth! That said, this is a well written books that beautifully exemplifies stories of women of color. My only gripe with the book is that I was hoping for more of a storyline centered on
SpoilerChicky’s sexuality beyond just coming out. I wish Chicky would have come out earlier in the book although I recognize that would have not allowed the same build up. I appreciate books about LGBT characters that don’t get stuck in the closest so to say. Also was I the only one slightly disappointed Chicky didn’t confess to a childhood crush on Lita?
Overall, I’d highly recommend this book for a lighthearted read centered on friendship! While there is some romance, don’t go into it expecting it, it’s far from the central story. It’s a cute read and easy enough to read in a day or two. Support some wonderful Latinx authors!!!!

"i’m chicky quintanilla, reigning beer pong queen, the first openly pansexual girl in meteor’s history. so what if i’m not wearing the right costume? i’m dressed as myself."

"but this—not that word, but this, my brown arms around this piece of the sky—is who I am. this is mine"

this book is for all the brown girls, who think they are too brown, or too big to be take up space. for the ones still questioning their worth and coming to terms with their self!! a book about friendship and that just being yourself is enough tossed in with so much love and stardust, chicky and lita will steal your heart!!
also there is pansexual and trans representation!!

tw: lesbophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, bullying, verbal harassment, underage drinking, use of slurs
