At first I wasn't expecting to like this...

But it grew on me. The love story is the main point but ultimately the divide between loyalty and love or duty is the main theme of this beautiful/tragic love story. In the beginning I didn't like Ciena but as I kept reading about her journey in the Empire I realize she is not much different from the Clone Troopers ideals either. It's at first the Empire mentality but than because it's military it becomes the loyalty and duty as a military officer. Also my favorite parts of the books are open endings. Leave to our interpretations.

Loved this peek into another story while canon is happening. I NEED A SEQUEL.

Also, Claudia Gray’s writing y’all. I’m a fan.

Also, the narrator. I’m also a fan.

Fantastic story with characters you get to know & care about deeply. If you're a Star Wars fan, you'll love this book. Looking forward to learning what happens to Thane Kyrell & Ciena Ree in Bloodline!

This book took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. The other three books I read leading up to the Force Awakens were good, but this was great. It's nice to see such a major plots being shown from different perspectives. Not to mention the two main characters showing such development and understanding. I had expected Ciena to be the Rebel and Thane to stay with the Empire but it was good to see the opposite and that even though the Empire was bias it couldn't deny how good Ciena was and would promote her.

I wish we got to see more with Thane and the Alliance. It seemed like we didn't get as much of that as we did with the Empire.

I can see where this ties in, especially the 'last battle' and the last scene taking place on the planet that we're seeing in the trailers now. Wonder if there were more hints, I doubt it though, they would've let something big slip into the novel.

Kinda hoping that there is a sequel to this? I need to know what happens to Thane & Ciena. I can see Leia being kind to Ciena like Thane said and she would be pardoned, to an extent.
