I give this book five stars! I will say that the book was bit slow to start and I wasn't sure how I felt about a book written from the point of view of Imperial Officers. But after the first couple chapters, I absolutely loved the book! The story was engaging and the character development was amazing. In fact, I am kind of sad this is a stand alone book. I would have liked to see more of the main characters in future books. (I guess this is still a possibility as I haven't read any of Claudia's other books, but...it is unlikely). Anyway, it was interesting to see the events of the three original Star Wars Stories (episodes IV-VI) from the point of view of people outside of the original Star Wars cast (Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo...etc.). Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend this to any Star Wars fans.
Moderate: War and Genocide
Minor: Death, Slavery, Child abuse, Alcohol, Classism, and Cursing

This book, omg. I loved it so much. It has everything I love about Star Wars, and there wasn’t even a single lightsaber!
I absolutely adored Thane and Ciena. Seeing them play off each other throughout the whole book was amazing. I sobbed and cheered on just about every page.
The nuances of this book is amazing. Specifically the detail taken to include all of the details about the Empire. Throughout the movies and some other Star Wars novels, we are shown pretty black and white portraits of the Empire. The Rebels are good, Empire bad, but what I loved about this book is seeing how they were evil. How the kindest of people can commit war crimes. I loved the sneak peak into the Imperial Dogma, and seeing how they manipulated so many into their cause.
The ending of the book was incredible. I was confused most of the book because it was supposed to connect to the Force Awakens, but I never noticed anything. When I did finally notice how it connected, I was in awe! I will always see the Force Awakens differently now. That’s what I love about Star Wars, is the continuing richening of the story and movies. Every small detail can be expanded into an epic full of amazing stories.
TLDR: 5/5 Absolutely incredible, I will always have the final scene stuck in my head rent free.

While the book starts off with an engaging premise and interesting characters, the story quickly plateaus and stagnates. The same conversations are rehashed over and over, and character development screeches to a halt half way through the book.
Graphic: Colonisation and War
Moderate: Death and Genocide
Minor: Injury/Injury detail and Alcoholism

I really enjoyed Lost Stars from a Star Wars macrohistory perspective. It was really neat to see key events from the original trilogy -- and a bit beyond -- unfold from ordinary people's points of view. The distant third-person POV style made it hard for me to connect emotionally with Thane and Ciena, which was a bit of a disappointment.

It's very YA and gets repetitive at times, but it picked up around the halfway point had some good angst. Overall a fun, relatively short read that is also accessible for readers who are new to the Star Wars universe. It did a really good job of showing the characters becoming indoctrinated and then gradually breaking away from the propaganda, in a way that was both compelling and understandable

Such a fun read. A lovable (and hate-able) cast of well-written characters set in an exciting and relevant story within the Star Wars universe. Couldn’t ask for anything more besides a sequel!
Moderate: Violence, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide attempt, and Death
