So how much longer do we have to wait for the next book this time? I need to know what happens.

Angelopolis Similar to Angelolgy, there was a lot that I liked about Angelopolis despite any qualms I may have had. In fact, I'm here to say that I actually enjoyed this book much better than the first. Perhaps it's because of the ample amounts of action, or maybe because of the discoveries that are slowly unearthed, but Danielle Trussoni managed to capture my imagination, and I eagerly paged through this book.

Evangeline doesn't play as big of a role in Angelopolis, instead giving way to more information about Verlaine and his posse of angelologists. As Nephilim become more of a threat, Verlaine must work even harder to keep humanity safe. It was so fun to follow him on the hunts, and be introduced to new characters. I'm a huge fan of the tough female characters that make an appearance here. Being an angelologist definitely isn't an easy job. Add in a mystery involving the Romanov family, and you have quite a story.

My one gripe, and this is the same one I had before, is that there is a large amount of descriptive writing that slowly bogs down the action. There are pages upon pages of historical information and angelic races. Although interesting in its own right, it does manage to pull the reader out of the overall mystery that surrounds the angels themselves. I'll admit that I skimmed more than a few pages, and yet I still managed to follow the story just fine. Still, this was done much better than the first novel so kudos on that!

As I said though, despite anything else I did actually enjoy the story in its entirety. The ending is a huge cliffhanger and so I know that there will be more to come. I'm in for the long haul now. Bring on more angels, more holy wars, and more action. I'll be here waiting for it.

Y encima ahora la autora no escribe la continuación....

Well, it was much better than the first book.

It kind of read like a Dan Brown book, in that they cover a lot of ground - literally (there's a nice section where they're traveling on the Trans Siberian rail) - all in pursuit of clues to some esoteric and ancient mystery involving the Watcher angels and Nephilim. I was pretty intrigued by it, even if much of the dialogue seemed very expository.

One of the reviewers noted that there was very little character development, and I have to agree with that. I also think that despite the epic scope of the backdrop, the plot actually came down to not a whole lot.

SpoilerWe see in the beginning that Verlaine is in love with an angel. He has to decide whether to kill her or not. By the end of the story, nothing has changed. He's still in love with her, and has to decide whether to kill her or not. The final passage makes it sound like it's some terrible revelation but it's more like "Wow okay, I guess now I *really* have to kill her." We already knew this!

I was also very confused as to which angels and humans were on whose side. I suppose the author wanted to keep that purposefully ambiguous, but I must say that even after finishing the book, I remain terribly confused. This is because of the aforementioned lack of character development, which leads me to question why any of these people do anything at all. What are their motivations? What do they really want? And whatever happened to the Angelopolis? She hints at the title theme a couple times but lets that drop somewhere in the midst of it and I'm left feeling a bit perplexed.

If there's another book, I'll probably read it just to see what happens. If there isn't another book, then that was a very cheap way to end it. As it was, it felt very rushed in the end, like she just ran out of steam and wanted to cut it short as soon as possible.

Don't waste your time. This book is terrible, filled with info dumps and lectures and noplot progress or purpose.

Spoiler Evangeline lets herself get captured to prove she's not an evil angel, couldnt she have just stunned Eno and left? didnt need to kill.

Verlaine decides he needs to kill Evangelinevatthe end of book, despite spending tho whole book talking about having to save her. We're not given a reason for why he decides she's got to die.

Godwin a protagonist we barely get to know, blows up a facility that makes a 1/3rd of Earth radioactive.....just because.

there's no purpose to anything that happens. Its convoluted forced "mystery" and filled with backstorythat reads like a summary biography. We dont see much, its all terrible conversations between characters.

Actual Rating: 4.5/5 (Goodreads, you really need a half star rating!)

Since reading Angelology, I knew Danielle Trussoni had an amazing ability to weave an intricate design into her storytelling. I was nervous that this ability would get lost in the sequel. However, my fears were soothed once I began reading and rediscovered the characters I loved in their new environment. A decade later, Verlaine is now a confident angel hunter and Evangeline, his love, now embodies the creature he is meant to capture. Although I felt like I wanted more of Evangeline's story (especially the years leading up her encounter with Verlaine) and a bit less of Verlaine, the story progressed well. The mythology/history that Trussoni created to explain the angels' power over the humans was extraordinarily dictated. It may have been a tad intricate, but it was simple enough to follow along. It was laid out for the reader in a creative manner, slowly easing out new information, tantalizing in its mystery. I couldn't put the novel down and read it twice to make sure I had digested everything! What I love most about Angelopolis was that characters who I believed were rather insignificant in the grand scope of the series all of a sudden became multifaceted and were integrated into the story to flesh out more details of how events came into fruition (I'm looking at you, Angela Valko!) I impatiently wait for the next installment in the series!
