This made me want to start reading comics week-to-week which I’ve never done. But let’s be honest I’m too cheap for that.

The new Captain Marvel series is out! Yay! Okay, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way…I’ll admit that I was sad to see the previous team for Captain Marvel leave, but so far I love what I’ve seen from the new creative team. They’re holding true to the character while also adding their own spin…I approve.
Honestly, looking back at this issue, I have trouble believing that it was just a single issue instead of three. SO much happened in this one issue, so it’s a lot to take in. But it did a great job jump-starting the series.
The first issue established where Carol stands, in pretty much every sense of the meaning. We kind of get a good idea of how much or little change we can expect to see from her and it set a baseline on her emotions, friendships, teams, etc etc.
And the cameos! A lot of characters that I’ve grown used to seeing in Captain Marvel made me so unbelievably happy. I really want to list out who showed up, but I feel like at least one of them you need to see the whole scene to get the full excitement of it all!
I loved a couple of the decisions in particular that were made in this issue. Again, I can’t really say what or why, but trust me, it’s good.
There was a lot of action as well as all the setup I already mentioned. At least two distinct fights, which is all sorts of amazing. So if you’ve been missing watching Carol kick butt, then this is totally the issue for you!

I think this was a great start for this run, but my hopes are very low with this writer. I knew we'd get a romantic, unnecessary subplot going into it... here's hoping it doesn't suck too much!

Follows a reveal from Life of Captain Marvel so that's cool!
