Although I liked the style it felt as if the stories lacked context, not only background that is usually provided in the series but there seemed to be no point to any of the stories, no peak, and no resolution.

Alive....

Really enjoyed this short story in which children go missing, do they live or die? Well written and gripping, looking forward to the craftsmen!

Loved this - can't wait to read The Craftsman now!

As a reader of other books by Sharon Bolton, I was expecting a good story and great writing. I'm not sure I was quite expecting this.

In the short excerpt, we briefly follow victims of The Craftsman...it's clear that this is only the beginning of the action. I was pulled into the story straight away and eagerly await being able to immerse myself in this atmospheric read soon.

Sharon Bolton is one of my favourite authors, and I’m happy to dive into anything with her name on it. Alive is a short prequel to The Craftsman, and the fact Bolton’s name was on it left me more than happy to read it even though I’m always tentative about short stories.

With Alive, we’re given a glimpse of all that is to come in The Craftsman. It’s creepy and atmospheric, ensuring you’ll be happy to devour it in no time. It gives a lot and nothing at all, ensuring you’ll want to dive right into The Craftsman.

All in all, a great prequel.

This was a good short story to fill in the details of the missing kids from [b:The Craftsman|34884810|The Craftsman (The Craftsman, #1)|Sharon J. Bolton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1517316777s/34884810.jpg|56137259]. It wasn't very long, but the writing style was just as good as in the full length novel.

I loved revisiting the characters that I read about last year, and also getting to know the kids who were already dead by the time we started The Craftsman.

Recommended for an hour or so's read.
