It took me a while to finish this book, not because it is badly written, but purely because I think it's mostly aimed for people that have little knowledge of music. A lot of the parts of the book mostly focus on definitions of core musical elements. Although these definitions are clear and concise (and come with diagrams that can help someone visualise what these elements are), personally I found slightly on the patronising side, as a musician myself. I wish instead a lot of the chapter could have been dedicated to some of the more serious conversations that were merely brushed, such as sexism and appropriation in pop music, the constricts of the concept of "genre", etc. I did enjoy the musical choices though!
