I spent the first 85% wondering why I was still reading when I found things in this world frustrating ... the last 10% piqued my interest by a surprising little twist. I went from 2 to 3 stars and I'll attempt the second book to get an answer for that little twist.

I'm not going to sugar coat it. This is a poorly written book. It's cliche, and she often takes the "easy' way out on a lot of things. And yet, I listened/read it in two days, because after all all the cheesiness etc. I was still enthralled.

Then again, I did also read the entire twilight series, so I don't always fall for fine literature. Will I read the entire series? Meeeh. probably not.

This was my daughter's pick for our mother-daughter book club - she was so excited to find it on Kindle Unlimited

I’m always searching for a ya dystopian novel that’s as good as the hunger games, and this so far isn’t. But I’ll read the sequel and see how things progress. It’s an interesting world the author has created. Let’s see what she does with it.

This book wasn't the worst, but it took me a long, long time to get into it (it's not particularly long but I took almost two months, whoops). As someone who writes myself, I noticed a lot of amateur writing techniques and this book felt very stereotypical with no real outstanding features. I couldn't really describe the characters without using tropes and while the ending was pretty intense, the rest of it was a little dully paced.
