Lovecraft Country is a novel following the different members of a black family in America in the 1950s as they interact with philosopher (read: sorceror) Caleb Braithwhite and become part of his plans to take over the chapters of philosophers across the USA.
I really liked the protagonists in the book, across the stories they were all so interesting and went through different and frightening things. I think Hippolyta's story was probably my favourite. I wished there was more connection between chapters especially when they ended ambiguously.

I haven't watched the HBO series, but from what I've read on DoesTheDogDie dot Com the TV series has taken a grain of truth from the book and made it more violent; shocking and 'sexy' (this is HBO we're talking about here). If you've tried the series and struggled due to some of the content, please give the book a go as the overall tone & content is more in-keeping with the science fiction from the 19th/20th century than anything more modern. A genuine delight to read - please give the book a chance.
