Silly little story, but I love Camille Rose Garcia. I need to find better feminist fairytales for my daughter.

Got this one free from Barnes and Noble when the Cinderella movie came out.
A very different look at Cinderella from the one you grew up by Walt Disney.
The story was short and sweet but mainly focused on the fashion and beauty more than anything. I think I prefer the Grimm version of this one.

Cinderella, or the Little Glass Slipper by Marcia Brown – A classic picture book of one of the most beloved fairy tales! Happy Reading!

I am not sure how much I enjoyed the retelling, maybe simply because I am used to a different version. However, I had to give this book five stars for the illustrations. These French-royalty-inspired illustrations are so much fun. Place images of Marie Antoinette and Versaille next to it and you will see. The pomp at the castle, and the ridiculous hair of the women are hilarious. The coloring is beautifully done, changing from a general blue tone at the sad and cold beginning to a warm an happy overall red at the end.

1955 Caldecott Medal
Retelling the classic story, translated and illustrated by Marcia Brown, Cinderella follows a kind girl, transformed into a mysterious princess at night to attend a magical ball. A prince, enamored with the princess, seeks her out by the little glass slipper she hurriedly left after escaping the ball at the toll of midnight.
Brown’s illustrations, seemingly done with pastels and ink, heavily feature the three primary colors in bright splotches of color. The images are whimsical and lively—a great match for the story!
