Great plot.
Lovely characters.
Would have liked to see more of the Kid... Hear more of him... Unfortunately, he was merely there at Times and our heroine didn't seem to be that invested in spending time with him after being away from him for a long time while working for the duke
Anyways, thought she was quite a strong woman overall.

I have read the whole Heart of a Duke series and have noticed an amazing growth in the character development over the course of the series. What started out as a light-hearted series of young ladies looking for true love has morphed into deep thought provoking stories of wounded people who overcome their problems and situations to find the love and family they need. If you are unfamiliar with Christi Caldwell's work this series is a MUST READ!
In this case, Vail, Lord Basingstoke - the Bastard Baron won his title through bravery at Waterloo. The illegitimate son of the Duke of Ravenscourt. He uses his title and wealth to collect other illegitimate children of the Duke in until he currently has 12 siblings in his family.
Bridget Hamilton was born to a marquess but was hidden away because she has a birthmark on her cheek and is deaf in one ear. She is currently being threatened by her brother. She must help him by stealing a rare book from the Baron or risk losing the son she has raised (who is actually her brother's illegitimate son).
Vail and Bridget aren't just generic hero and heroine, they are well developed, nuanced character who draw your attention. You love them and hate the situation they find themselves in. You can't help but have feelings for them and hate the way they are treated by others - as outsiders and not quite up to ton standards.
As if this book wasn't amazing enough, at the end there is a synopsis of all 14 books in the series so you can have a who's who of those who came before.
