What a wonderful book! I loved seeing Maddie's growth and change throughout the book. I loved her friendship with Nia and Shu. AND I loved the redemption she got at the end from her dad.

Wow what an emotional read. I really enjoyed this and am glad to have read it after having it on my radar for a while. The experiences of this character were so raw and realistic without feeling forced, and she beautifully weaved humor and emotion. This definitely is more character driven than I usually read and I really enjoyed following her development. The audio was really enjoyable. Definitely check trigger warnings prior to reading. Great read!

Somehow I’ve chosen three books with heavy dad-grieving for my holiday week reading. This one hit hard.

A lot of really heavy stuff happens in this book and the protagonist goes through a lot of growth as a result.
Overall there were a few things that weren't quite right for me--when books are sad and include a lot of stuff that isn't fun to read because of the emotions, I expect a bit more from them and this one didn't quite deliver for me.
The main character comes to a lot of good conclusions, but basically because other people tell them to her--there was something almost didactic about it.
There's an odd through point about sex that kind of feels like it's thrown in just to check a box.
Overall it was a good book, but it was such a sad/intense read that I hoped for more from it.
