I enjoyed this slightly less than the first book but am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. We shall see if I like the other books.

If you enjoyed the movie, The Wizard of Oz, you may also enjoy this series.

There is always a risk with sequals that they won't live up to their predecessors but thankfully that is not the case here. On our return to the land of Oz, we follow Tip as he makes his way to the Emerald City to escape hs life of hard work and no play as Mombi's servant. Before he leaves, he creates for himself a new friend, one Mombi brings to life for her own ends, although it doen't quite work out that way. I also wasn't aware that a load of independent girl scout types could be so devious, although I shouldn't be surprised really.

Baum is always a delightful and imaginative author. His style is simple and thoughtful, his characters distinctive and funny, the road trip around Oz an adventure. At the same time, the story has some pretty significant things to say about identity, agency, gender and responsibility.

I've mostly known of Oz by the movies and musicals and it's interesting to see the original material.

This one was not as good as the first, but still a weird, quirky, and fun adventure. I didn't think the cast was as strong as in the first book. Honestly, the idea of The Gump is terrifying. I didn't see the twist at the end coming, and it made for a good ending.
