First Thought when Finished: Fall of Night by Jonathan Maberry has given me PABD (Post Awesome Book Depression)!

Story Thoughts: You know when a book just has you on edge THE ENTIRE TIME? Well that is me with this series. Even though I ultimately know where it is going because I have read most of the [b:Rot and Ruin|7157310|Rot and Ruin (Benny Imura, #1)|Jonathan Maberry|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1264898635s/7157310.jpg|7443037] series. The path is still emotionally gutting. From seeing characters that I have heard about in the other series (Ledger and Imura) to the characters I already cared about from [b:Dead of Night|10779721|Dead of Night|Jonathan Maberry|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388197026s/10779721.jpg|15785045], I just care about everything they go through. This story made me cheer, cry, and cuss Jonathan Maberry just a little bit. When the last minute ticked away, I pretty much just sat there thinking: I am just not sure what I can follow this up with!

Character Thoughts: These aren't your typical "lovable" characters but dammit I loved all of them. I just wanted to find them a safe place to go. I loved their passion, stamina, and will to live. I loved the chances that they took. The people that they mourned (because it is a zombie book y'all--people die). The love that they still managed to have! I particularly loved all their batshit crazy moments--though Dez just gotta say that taking a bath in steak sauce is not on my Zombie Apocalypse plan *snort*. Each character was unique and brilliantly written.

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated by: William Dufris /Length: 15 hrs and 2 mins

Holy crap William Dufris was excellent. This makes me want to go back and listen to the first one which I originally read. His pacing, accents, emotion, and urgency were just the right pace for this story. I will definitely listen to him again in the future!

Final Thoughts: PABD--I will try to fight through!

NOTE: PABD was stolen (with permission) from Tara from 25 Hour Books. It stands for Post Awesome Book Depression when you are just not sure what to read after because this book was so awesome. I will soldier through but I am going to completely change genres. It is the only solution!

I kinda feel like there should be another book to this because there seems to be seem loose ends with some random characters tossed out there. I get that the world is screwed eights ways to Sunday, but you don't just toss some random characters and then leave it hanging at that.

First book was better. Again, the main characters just aren’t likable. The events and everything are fun but the people are so annoying.

I adore Jonathan Maberry. He's my go-to recommendation for anyone wanting a quality horror read. I also love, love, love the world he created for his YA series and am thrilled beyond belief to get to continue visiting there. That said, I had to downgrade my rating for this book. Sadly, the editing was crap. Yes, I know, Mr. Maberry is not at fault for the editing. Nevertheless, it presents a formidable distraction while reading. I read the ebook, but also had on hand a print copy. The errors were consistent between copies. I'm not one to complain about a few misspellings or random letters left in the final copy. But really, there's a whole chapter that is out of sequence and, I believe, was meant to be removed (chapter sixty seven, page 196). Errors in tense, spelling, continuity, and characters were too frequent, particularly in the second half. So frequent that, at best they dumped me out of the story for a second, and at worst they sent me scrambling for the last appearance of a character or mention of an event to clarify. Even with all its troubles, this book is a great ride. Fast paced, action packed, skin crawling horror, fantastic dialog, everything that I love about Mr. Maberry's books-it's all here and I enjoyed-almost-every page.

I love Jonathan Mayberry, but I was disappointed in the ending of this one. It just didn't feel finished to me, and I hate that feeling.

A very good sequel to an awesome first book, this one picks up immediately where to first one ends. Plenty of action, suspense, and horror as the zombies are everywhere in Stebbins and the surrounding area, and then things get worse. I really like Maberry's writing, he takes a character that is an awful person, mean, a bully, violent, and doesn't try to make her transform into a caring, reasonable, nurturing person. He just sets her loose in an environment where she thrives, tons of zombies to kill and children to protect. Seems that a lot of other books, she would change into someone nice, and that wouldn't be believable. Oh, and she's a good guy. Go and read everything Jonathan Maberry writes, you won't be disappointed.
