Josi Kilpack is such a great author! I think she writes great mysteries and Sadie Hoffmiller is a great character.
This was a little more serious of a book, but I loved the setting and the mystery was a good one! I love the twists
and turns her books take.

I missed Pete Cunningham in this book, but understood why he was not in this one. I'll be glad to have him back!
And Gayle's character was definitely stepped up and I loved her.

Great read!

I am for sure a fan of this author and so far this book is one of my favorites. It has some mystery, emotion, and feel good parts to it. I think I really connected to the main character. Maybe that's why it's one of my favorite Kilpack books so far. I plan to find and read more.

Like the previous book, this was a different one for the series, with Sadie recovering from the trauma in the previous book, dealing with anxiety and PTSD. She takes an extended vacation to Hawaii to try to recover and relax. I loved it. I enjoyed the author's description of Kauai and some of the little things she threw in - rubber slippahs, IZ, and the Hawaiian pidgin, although some of them I don't think she mentioned what they meant and some of them were so rarely used that when she said them again, I'd forgotten what they meant. It did make me want to go back to Hawaii, although I've never been to Kauai, so it definitely made me want to go there! :D I was surprised by the lax island attitude towards marijuana described in the book, a new interesting fact I didn't know. The recipes sound absolutely divine and I can't wait to try them out! Especially the pork and the chicken!! Wow! I even bought a can of Spam so I could make the Spam fried rice!! :D I'll have to go hunting for the Aloha brand soy sauce mentioned in the recipes, though. Never seen it before. I still need to look up the extra chapter online. I definitely felt sorry for Charlie and Noelani. I did figure out the twist ending in this book, though, but not until closer to when it was revealed. Can't wait for the next book. :D

3/14/12 - Read the extra chapter online. It's a huge spoiler and tells how Noelani is killed and by whom, so definitely don't read it first, but it was interesting to read. It also includes a bonus recipe. :)

Also, I made the Spam Fried Rice for dinner tonight. It was yummy! My husband (Mr. Picky) even loved it. There's a lot of sauce, so it's got a lot of wetness to it; it's not kinda dry like some fried rice dishes are. All in all, it was good, pretty easy to make. Can't wait to try the recipes for cookies, the chicken, and the pork now!!

How can you not love Sadie Hoffmiller and the adventures she gets into? I love that she travels, has recipes from wherever it is she's at and that there's not so many new characters in each book that you get confused. I wish they'd come out closer together, since it's a continuing story, but it's not going to make me stop reading them. Quick, clean and easy read. Can't wait for the next one!
